Day 8 Piste to Valladolid

Cenote
|
We got up early and were on the road before 6 a.m. We had an easy ride as the
sky was overcast. We got into Valladolid (pronounced by-ah-doh-LIT)
around 8:30 a.m.
We visited a cenote right in the city. There are very few rivers,
lakes and ponds in the Yucatan. The peninsula is composed of porous limestone.
Almost all of the fresh water is underground. Cenotes (pronounced sen-noh-TAYS)
form when the limestone roofs over these underground water sources collapse.
Forming a deep well.

We checked into a hotel and walked around the city. I bought several gifts for
the folks back home.
Later in the afternoon, I started feeling ill. By early evening I had a fever,
diarrhea, and was vomiting quite violently. Paul went to a pharmacy and got me a
thermometer. My temperature was 100.4°F. I started taking the Cipro, my
doctor prescribed for the trip "just in case". I suspect I got food poisoning
from some eggs I had for breakfast.
