Seattle to San Francisco
Day 3 Twin Harbors State Park to
Bush Pioneer County Park, WA

Rose, the woman I met at Twin Harbors, and I rode together today. We left the campground around 7:30 a.m. in a light fog. Within a few miles we were treated to some nice ocean views.

The weather today has been awesome! We had plenty of sunshine.

The route turned east along Willapa Bay. We passed numerous sloughs and salt marshes. Traffic was extremely light. In no time, we reached the town of Raymond. Here we found lots of iron statues depicting wildlife and town's people. They were everywhere and gave the town a very unique character.

We found a grocery store in Raymond. I was at another decision point. I could stop at Bush Pioneer Park and end the day at 51 miles. Or I could continue to Fort Canby State Park for a total of 85 miles. I felt very strong today. But, I did not want to repeat Saturday's mistake by trying for another super long day. I decided to end my day at 51 miles.

We passed several oyster-processing plants, with HUGE piles of oyster shells. We had a bit of a climb at Bruceport Park. We arrived at Bush Pioneer Park around 2 p.m. and spent the rest of the afternoon exploring a nearby beach.

Due to my work schedule, I need to average 60 miles a day so I can be in San Francisco on Sept. 4. I've been riding into the wind a lot. And the spacing of campgrounds has forced me to choose between a really short day and really long days. Not counting getting lost or side trips, my average progress along the route is close to 60 miles per day. Now that I am on the coast, I'm hoping that the northerly winds will help push me south.

We encountered two other bicycle tourists, Sara and Lisa at the campground tonight.

I will enter Oregon tomorrow and will attempt another long day. A lot will depend on the wind and how I am feeling. Rose has more time than I do for her trip and will probably do a shorter ride tomorrow. It was great having company on today's ride. Hopefully, I'll meet more bicycle tourists further south.
